Our favorite school project as kids was the diorama, the challenge of creating a world in a shoebox. And whether we attempted to portray a scene from Gulliver’s Travels or recreate the first moon landing – tiny characters were always needed to act out our elaborate plays. These folk were fashioned from empty spools, or pipe cleaner or orphaned game pieces, but the material of choice was always the clothespin.
A word to the adults:
Somewhere between macaroni jewelry and finger painting on the list of quintessential children’s crafts is the clothespin doll. While your 21st Century kid may have no idea what a clothespin is, we’ve yet to speak to an adult who hadn’t created a cast of wooden characters at some point in their life. We’ve updated the standard materials and packaged these kits in a manner we hope will appeal to both girls and boys. It may be an old fashioned craft but the creative possibilities are still endless.
Each kit contains materials to create four clothespin people including: wood pins, heads & stands; acrylic paints, varnish & paintbrush; fabric & notions; complete and kid friendly instructions. All of the kit contents are neatly packaged in a recyclable kraft tube, wrapped in baker’s twine and sealed with a custom label. This project is best suited to kids ages 8+ with an adult helper for occasional guidance.
